    Vomiting While Trying To Work

Today is my first day open after a long 10 day break. An hour after I opened, I started vomiting.

Called all the parents, told them I was sick. None of them are coming to get their kids, so my husband is on his way home to take over.

Is there anything worse than being sick when trying to do this job? I just want to curl up in bed. Uggg. What a way to start the week.

If it happens again (hopefully it won't), tell the parents legally you can't be working while throwing up. In reality its the truth as I feel for what ever the state says we can't have children for per sickness, we ourselves should be included in the list.

If more people overall followed those guidelines I feel sickness would go way down.

IME the parents don't care. You have to actually say the words "you need to come get your child right away." -you even have to say "right away" or they take their time getting there, hours even.

I'm so sorry you have to deal with this. Feel better.

Who the hell would want their kids to stay there with you?? I would pick up!! Guess they can't complain when their kids start puking!! Which, would mean they're going to have to pick them up so why not head it all off? I don't understand people.

I hope you feel better!!! I would be making this NOT OPTIONAL. "You HAVE to come pick up dck within X minutes. See you then."

Sorry this is happening, especially after a big break like that which, don't know about you, but I always feel badly even tho I can't control it!

I'm not sure why after all I've read and been through myself, but is always surprises me at how little parents care! I mean everyone gets sick, it's usually not expected when it comes to something like what you have, sooo....you know...GET YOUR KID!? It only makes sense for the sake of their own child and you.

If you feel like it's too much, call them again and say please come, now, I can't be throwing up and not attending to your child (which obviously you are not while being sick!)...thanks. period.

My husband will be home soon. I have all teachers kids, so I know it is hard for them to leave school in the middle of the day.

I literally just almost puked on a child while I was changing her. Bet her parents would love to take home dirty clothes covered in my vomit. Gross. Gross. Gross.

I haven't been this sick in a LONG time, and I am on chemo! This is sooo much worse than the side effects of the drugs. Ick.

Wow! Just wow! I've never had a parent not pick up when I was vomiting. As someone else asked, "Who wants their child in care when the dc provider is vomiting?"

I can't believe I didn't think of this earlier. I had the stomach flu around Thanksgiving. I only had one dck at the time so I gave mom the option. He came, I quarantined myself in our br for the day as DH was home....Her whole house got it! The parents will learn a hard lesson.

Oh dear! It's tough when parents have jobs as teachers, but they are great to have. I have one also, so I totally get why you don't want to call them.

Look after yourself first tho, and if you need the day tomorrow or think you might, tell them tonight at pick-up! Feel better really soon!

I agree. I very rarely close my day care and will generally work through illness or injury if I can. The stomach bug, though, is one illness I've never managed to be able to work through. I give you credit for being able to do it and hope you feel better soon.

I see where you are on chemo and was wondering if you should check in with your doctor. Every one I know that is/was on chemo really had to watch their immune system so usually if they were sick it was into a trip to the doctor to make sure everything was ok.

Is there anything special you should be doing when working around the little ones due to all the germs coming in and out?

I feel so badly for you. What is wrong with these parents?

My Aunt was taken to the hospital a few months ago and I was called in the morning and told to get there quickly as she wasn't going to make it. I called all my parents, and one had the nerve to ask if I would be returning home after my hospital visit and taking kids in the afternoon.

I mean...REALLY???? Are we not human?

Hang in there. Sorry to hear you are going through chemo...I hope you are okay. Hugs!

I went through the same thing a few weeks ago.
Was feeling a little ill mid morning. Within an hour I had thrown up and texted parents to please pick up early if possible. 3 minutes later back in bathroom having a child bring me my phone, to text parents forget request, please pick up kids ASAP.
I work through all the pain of the fibromyalgia, colds, sinus infections, asthma acting up, etc. but those tummy bugs with vomiting or severe cramps (had this on Monday and scared my kiddo from my yells) just are too hard to work through.
They ****, hope you feel better soon! And shame on your clients for not picking up their kids (for their sake and yours).
