    Food Vent

My contract states that if a parent does not want their child on the food program, they are responsible for supplying ALL of their childs daily food (1-2 meals & 2 snacks a day). I have one parent who prefers to bring her childs own food-which is fine. This child isn't a year old yet (almost) but does well with eating at our set meal times. This is what mom brings today (child was here for 2 snacks & one meal):

AM snack: Fruit Loops & Capri Sun

Lunch: 6 oz formula, Hormel Compleats meal (w/990mg of sodium )

PM Snack: 4 oz jar of fruit, chocolate chips, Capri Sun

Really?????????????????????????? No veggies, a crap TON of sugar, and a load of sodium.

I'm rewriting my food policy tonight. I don't care if parents want to bring their childs food-usually it's because I don't serve all organic. But this, this is ridiculous!

Not sure how to word the policy so any ideas are welcome.

Poor kid will be on a sugar rush ALL DAY!! I dont allow parents to bring any food from home other than puree's and formula/breast milk. Would you consider not giving them an option to bring their own food?

yeah....no option here, either! There's no way I'm having that battle, with parents or with kids.

Licensing for MI states that if a parent had agreed to provide the food, then the caregiver shall have a written agreement from the parent and shall be responsible for providing adequate food if the parent does not. I would just show her this in the licensing book and maybe print off what the minimum requirements for the age of the child are. R 400.1931 is the rule, page 12. It also says that each child will be provided with nutritional and sufficient food as required by the minimum meal requirements of the child care food program...etc. So in that regard, I take it as if the parent provides food, they also have to go by these guidelines or the provider will provide the food to comply.? Hope this helps!
