    Texas Providers--FAll ZONES

    I am redoing my outside play area and had wanted to enclose it w/Landscape timbers. I was reading my manual from the state and I am completely confused on the fall zones etc. Can somone simplify it for me? I am reading the toys have to be 6 feet from the landscape timbers and 6 feet from any other toys???? Any help would really be appreciated!:confused:

    not from Texas but those are pretty much national standards. Except for the swings. those you need to measure the top bar to the ground then minimum would be that measurement from the center out but still 6 feet mininimum including the bottom of the slide.
    It:: will wait

      I was just inspected a few weeks ago...
      I have a climbing mountain on my playground (click on my website link for pics) My playground is 'pea gravel'...and although I have an adequate amount in the playground, it constantly gets shifted and relocated by the kids running..playing..filling buckets... making roads...
      I also have a large pile of gravel on my property that I add to the playground from..
      The inspector didn't like it that the levels around the mountain fluctuated .. she requested that I enclose an area around the mountain.. with some type of landscape playground timber.. in order to 'hold in' the proper amount directly around the mountain...

          You can have grass...
          You can have surfacing material..
          Where they get sticky with the 6 inch requirement is under any climbing .. . swinging.. or sliding structure..
          and yes.. around the mountain I have 6 feet all the way around...

            I know this response is late, but I thought the information could still be valuable for anyone who looked at a later date. A lot of people have a hard time understanding the playground requirements in the minimum standards. In Texas, for all permits/playgrounds in existence after 9/1/2003, there must be a six foot use zone in all directions around rocking, rotating, bouncing, climbing equipment and slides. The use zones between equipment CANNOT overlap. For example, you have a four foot slide and a rocking animal figure that are positioned side by side. There should be a minimum of 12 ft between them to be in compliance. A lot of people have overlooked that in the past. Swings take up a lot of space. You have to have twice the height of the swing in the front and in the back. So, if you have a swing that is 10ft tall, you should have 20ft in the front and in the back of the swing with nothing else in the way. Permits/playgrounds after 12/1/2010 have a few different regulations in terms of height requirements and surfacing depths.
