    Ugh...they are ALL on waitlists!

I have never had this much trouble trying to fill an opening. I just had a spot open up last week, and have interviewed 3 families for it...every single family is on a waitlist for a center! Do I just pick one, and then refill the spot when they leave? Pick one and keep looking for a permanent enrollment and let them go when I find one? Or just keep on interviewing until I find someone who plans on being here more than 6 months? What would you do?

Personally, I would just go with the one who fits best and pretend I knew nothing of the waitlist.

You have no idea that they won't love your program and change their mind about leaving. Just like you have no idea when you enroll anyone that they might leave the next month...kwim?

Go with whomever fits best and deal with their absence when that time arrives.

Never worry about things that haven't happened yet because they haven't happened yet.

If the spot has only been open for a week and you can afford to wait until you find someone more permanent, I would wait and keep interviewing. If you don't feel you can wait it out until you find someone else, I'd pick the family you feel best fits your program for now. You never know....if they like you, they may decide to stay with you istead of making their kids readjust to a new day care.
