Hubby didn't want me to hand out cards with the candy, so I didn't. Instead, I made a chalkboard sign out of an old political yard sign and wrote on there that my daycare had one opening and to ask for information. I put it in the flower bed right next to where I was sitting on the steps.
Every year, I dress up as a witch-I'm sort of a tradition. One of the moms was so thrilled because her little one came running up to me this year and started talking like we were old friends. She said that last year, he threw down his candy bag and tried to run away. Anyway, I look scary, but I laugh and talk to the kids and parents, and we have a good time.
I had 695 kids last night. (I knew we had a lot each year, so this year, I counted candy before and after). You can figure that means at least 300 parents saw my sign. I saw a lot read it, and in hindsight, I saw several laughing. I assumed they were laughing at my costume or the kids reactions. Not one single parent asked for my card or mentioned it to me. It wasn't until way up in the evening that a kid said "Great prop" and pointed to my sign.
Great. All those parents thought it was a Halloween prop instead of a business sign. :
