    Hurricane Sally!

I don't have anything in my policies regarding severe weather!!! Just that I'm open on snow days

Sunday Sally is suppose to be here. Should I just tell parents that I will be open Monday unless they hear otherwise? I don't see any reason to close unless the storm is actually going on or my house gets hit by a tree or something. I would have no problem watching kids without power. I have a gas stove for cooking and woodstove for heating.

Maybe I should send home a notice? OYE

I would just say open unless otherwise noted. I would put something in about being safe getting the kids to your house, make them feel guilty for not keeping them home! we are supposed to get it mon-tues, not sure how bad but I really dont want to be stuck with kids at my house if it gets bad!

In my contract I cover my behind by saying "I am open no matter what the weather is like as long as I have power!" And we have a generator as well so I am covered all the way around. Now in the past I was w/o power for a few hours and then opened right away and kids were dropped off that day too. I used to work a job that didn't care what the weather was like outside and my provider always closed even when there was a chance of flurries. So I try to be open for my parents the best I can. IF I must close and a parent questions my policy then I will just no-charge them for that day. If they don't ask and pay as usual I don't say anything.

I've been walking around singing all day..."Oh Sandy, the aura is rising behind us. The pier lights , our carnival life forever...." Bruce Springsteen.

Ok, back to hurricane policy. Down here in Hurricane Alley, we close when public schools close, city offices close, or fresh water flooding or storm surge threatens. Not sure where you are in that cone, but power failure is a real possibility. After Debbie and Isaac, we've has quite enough this year. Good luck!

The local radio station felt the name quite apropos being that it's looking like Jersey is going to be hit hard.

We shall see - let's hope and pray the winds shift and send Sandy back out to sea.

I just dont want to be stuck with kids here. generators and extra food are great, but what happens if something happens to your house and you have kids that arent yours around? I have parents that work up to an hour away and one in the city (NYC). I hope they just dont go in. I guess it depends when it hits. Day to day safety is one thing, and even snow, but wind and flooding, Id rather not have to deal with.

I don't know about other states but here in MD as part of our licensing we have to have emergency plans in effect for senerios and practice them each month. We have a Tornado & Hurricane plan we practice even with the parents in the event that something happens to my house. We have a school a cross the street and Fire & Police stations near by that are our back-up locations. It just so happens that my parents live a cross the street from me and their house is an approved emergency evacuation place. Luckily this isn't a flash storm, we know about it well in advance. I would just talk with your parents today and see what their plans are. I'm in Maryland and it's supposed to hit here Mon into Tues so I am guessing the worst will be while the parents are home and I won't have to deal with evacuating kids. They've already told us here on the news stations to prepare to be w/o power for a few days. But just talk to your parents today and see what they plan on doing.
