    Accident Prone Kids

Do you have any accident prone toddlers?

I have a new toddler that has been walking for 2 months now. This child always falls down, always hitiing their head on things. Every week the dck leaves at least once from falling and hitting their head, resulting in some sort of bruise or scratch. Every Monday they come with new bruises that happend over the weekend.

I'm begining to wonder if this child has an inner ear thing going on or they can't see very well and cant judge distance when to stop and grab ahold of something. For instance if the slide is in front of them, they misjudge the distance and end up falling down and hurting themselves. This child is very unsteady.

DCM says she has just accepted that the child is accident prone.

Is this normal for kids to fall all the time?

I have one like that. He needed glasses. It hasn't helped completely, some kids are just too interested in life to slow down and watch things, but it did help some. Might be worth looking into.

Is it normal. For the most part yes. I have had some kids that I would have loved to wrap in bubble wrap AND wear a helmet! They're just figuring that walking thing out, sometimes it takes awhile.

I have one that is 3.5 that is accident prone...the kid walks into walls trips over own two feet all the time.. I don't allow this kid to do things that he should be able to, but Id rather send him home in one piece than to chance it...

Yes! I have been doing this for 21 years and in that time have twice sent a kid out for stiches - and it was the same girl both times!

            Thank you for your replies!!

I have never had a child like this. Ive had early walkers too, and never any accidents like this child. Put it this way, I have been doing daycare for 4 years and I have 4 incident reports in my binder all from this child!!

I have one DCB who always fell while walking, then running and now...he's just fine! I always felt sooo bad and tried so hard to keep an extra tab on him, since I didn't want him to go home with a bruise or bump...nothing seemed to work...he just outgrew the stage and is perfectly fine now!
