How Many Parents Asked You If You’re Open Monday?

So far 2 of the 4 families I have, asked if Im open Labor Day. Im sorry, but its just completely rude! Its in my policies that Im closed several holidays. They arent asking because they need to work! They want to ditch their kids and have a quiet day to themselves! I feel like saying, since you have the day off, how about I drop my kids at your house for 10 hours! .....except that I look forward to family days and wouldnt want to do that!

Let is slide if you can, it's just not worth stressing over something like that

My parents wouldn't dare ask me something like that because not only is it in my policy's that I don't watch kids outside of their scheduled work hours but the days off are listed there as well and I stick the reminder right on their invoices the couple of weeks before the scheduled day off.

They know full well right at interview time I expect my daycare parents to want to be with their children on their days off and will not ever be interested in watching them during those times.

If they were stuck working that day (many parents are!) I don't see the harm in them double checking. Doesn't mean I'm going to say yes but it wouldn't offend me either.

None have asked me yet but my holiday schedule is pinned on the board above my sign-in/out sheet and I always have a printed reminder plastered on my front door ... NOBODY can miss that one.

That's funny, I DON'T have any days off/holidays built in for myself, no vacation, nothing! (I'm changing that in my new contract in January, I'll give myself 1 unpaid vacation week, woop dee doo..)

So actually I asked all my parents if they were coming and actually none of my kids came on Memorial Day, 4th of July, or Labor Day! I've ended up getting paid holidays just by chance! Woohoo!

I was surprised that I had one family ask! It is in our contract and handbook that we are closed.

99% of my parents are all awesome about remembering which days I am closed but I have one mom who says "See you tomorrow!" or "See you in the morning!" every.single Friday at pick up. ::

I just say "Have a great weekend!" and smile because she is welcome to show up on my step if she wants.....I will be at home enjoying my day off.

When I worked at a center we could always tell who read the weekly newsletters by who asked if we were open on holidays.

None, now. I had one parent who is no longer with me who would always assume I was open unless I looked her dead in the eye and said, "DCM, I am NOT open on X holiday".

She had a list of days I was to be closed throughout the year, including holidays and personal days. Then, at the end of each month, I'd send out an email to everyone saying what days I would be closed for the upcoming month. I'd also post the days. I could say on Friday, "have a good long weekend, see you Tuesday!" and she still wouldn't get it.

The first time this happened was Easter weekend. Closed Friday, the weekend, and Monday. She called me Monday morning from my driveway asking me where I was. I said, "um, in bed, why?" "WELL, aren';t you open today?!" "Um, no, we discussed this, I posted it, I emailed you, I gave you a paper...I am closed". "Well, can you take her for a few hours?" "NO!" and I had to hang up on her. seriously, come on.

So then I started adding another method to the list, sending a group email to all my parents midway through a long weekend, saying, "Hope everyone is having a great, safe long weekend! What fabulous weather, huh? Just a reminder that I am closed on Monday! See you all on Tuesday!"

Now that she's not here anymore, I don't have to worry about anyone showing up on my doorstep on a day off or holiday. ;-)

None out of my 8 families asked. I sent home a reminder Monday and posted it on the door Friday. I'm enjoying my 3 day weekend!
