Cheap Alternative To Plexi Glass? Or A Better Idea?

I want to cover my daycare table in plexi glass or something similar so that i can slide their art work or random pictures underneath. My table is 30x70 or 72 i forget which one. Plexi glass was like $175 without shipping. Thats way to much for me right now.

Does anyone one have any cheaper alternatives or suggestions? My only thing is I need it to be a washable, durable and non breakable surface. We use this table for everything

Our Menards carries plexiglass in several different thicknesses and sizes. It runs from 29.98 for the 24 x 48 size on up.

I buy clear plastic sheeting from the local fabric/craft store (JoAnn's), but I believe that WalMart also carries it in their fabric department. I have it on my kitchen table, diningroom table, and craft table. It's so much easier to clean and saves my good wood tables. If you want a more fitted cover, you can tape it underneath.

This is what I have - I bought it at walmart and you trim to your size. For my dining room table (seats 8 adults) is cost me about $6...you can buy it in different thicknesses too! But, it does stretch/shrink after you have it unrolled (and in my case cut). Not a huge deal but when I purchase my next one, I will leave it laying flat on something for a few days before I cut it. I am assuming when it is rolled it is kind of 'stretched'.
