    Mosquitoes

We have the perfect weather for playing outside! Although, sometimes it's a tad too hot and must stay indoors. But, we rarely go out into my huge, toy filled yard. Why? MOSQUITOES!!!

We just can't go out there without being bit many times. And, the bites become inflamed bumps over a centimeter wide that are sooooooo itchy.

Has anyone tried one of those propane mosquito catchers? Do they work? I'm so frustrated at having to stay indoors in this beautiful weather.

I haven't tried one of those but have you tried bug spray on the kids?

**Watching this thread because I am in the same position.**

I actually have a DCG who has immune issues and every time she is bitten, it causes her extreme pain, not just itchiness, and each bite swells to the size of a golf ball. She doesn't even have to scratch it. DCM wants me to put long sleeves and pants, and tuck pants into socks, when we go outside.

I hate using bug spray, and most of my parents don't like their kids using it, because of the deet. I have not had any success with a non-deet bug spray. So we don't end up staying outside long. It's SO HOT and I have to dress the poor girl up in layers so mosquitoes won't get her. :-(

We were just talking about this last night as we were sitting around the fire! My son plugged in the bug zapper- yes I have one. if we are outside a lot and I have it on consistently it does help! But, my neighbor said her grandma swears by the OFF clip ons. Depending on the age of the child that might help. A few years ago, as much as I hate to spray chemicals, I did spray for misquitos! It was just too much!
The guys at boy scout camp spray real Listerine around and that helps. Can't be generic though. They put it in spray bottles and mist it around the tables etc. Might work in a play area and it doesn't kill grass etc.
I just can't wait until we have a good freeze

We used the yard spray and it did a good job. Not for 8 weeks though, only about 4 weeks. Still, the number of mosquitos dropped drastically.

              Menards carries this.

I considered the Off Clip-Ons but when I read the warnings I decided not to use them for the children. I will use them, however.
Before I invest in a propane mosquito killer, I thought I'd ask around and see if they're effective enough to warrant the expense. Thanks for your help!

How about using a bug suit/jacket/pants I live in the country on a river and the mosquitos are just terrible a lot of the time. I find these are great! Not too pricy either.

Down here in the swamp, we use Avon Skin So Soft to keep the Florida State Bird away from the kiddies. I have a friend who said the propane thing did not work well.
