    Changes!

After 17 years, we are moving the day care to our home and selling our day care house!

We're going to save a ton of money without two mortgages, two sets of utilities etc. Our home town has a shortage of providers and we already have a waiting list for when we open! We've completely re-done the basement (1500 sq ft) and will be making the move by the end of the month. Just had the fire dept.'s OK. I'm excited about the move. The day care has a separate entrance etc will be great.

I have enjoyed keeping the day care separate from home, but that will still be possible with our new set-up as we all "live" upstairs.

Best part is almost all our day care families are going with us. I increased my rates and some will have to travel further to get to us...but they are coming anyway, which makes me very happy.

The "mother of 7" that I have vented about numerous times, is not a happy camper however. Evidently, this is very inconvenient for her and evidently I shouldn't be "allowed" to move!!!! To teach me a lesson, she told me she was only going to bring the three youngest to my day care. I said OK and promptly filled the 4 other spots. Yesterday, she was furious because she changed her mind and wants the older ones with me anyway. She went ballistic when I told her I didn't have room for them now. I always hated having so much of my income tied to her.

I am going to enjoy seeing my husband all day and seeing my daughters right after school at 3PM instead of after 6PM. I will be able to start dinner earlier and we can eat before 8pm! When my parents come to visit from the UK, I can be around them all day too instead of gone 6-6. These things alone outway anything I will be giving up by selling the day care house.

    More time with family
    More income

    Happy camper dance!!!!!!happyfacehappyfacehappyfacehappyfacehappyface

However...I am more tired than I have ever been in my life right now, as we try to move and stay open at the same time! Our evenings have been filled with painting etc. I'll be glad when it's all done!

Good luck on the move! Definitely sounds like the right choice. Now you won't know what to do with your "extra" time and money::

So happy for you!!!! .....but am a teeny tiny bit sad that I have lost my "not in y own house" partner

For your situation, still having kids at home and all, I can totally see how it makes much more sense to be at home instead of away at work. That is great and I bet your kids are excited too!

Where will your DS go? Will he find an apartment or will he go home with you? He is probably excited about no littles running around but sad that he won't have that anymore either.

As for your family of 7....GOOD FOR YOU!!! happyface I love stories where someone "thinks" they have the upper hand and then says something out of haste to goad you and in the end they get what's coming to them! Sounds to me like he should have handled the whole thing like an adult and not a child. I suppose even if she pulls her youngest because she is mad, you will have no issues finding replacements for them too.

Anyways.....super excited and happy for you!!! Change can be refreshing and wonderful!!

            Good for you!!

I want to sell my daycare home and move my daycare into my home when I have children of my own. A basement that can be converted into a daycare will be #1 on our househunting list when the time comes.

I can't wait to hear all about how your new adventure is going!

I'm excited that our son is moving back home too. This will allow him to save some money too. We have plenty of room and love each others company. My daughters are so very excited. They get to see more of Mom and their brother. They love the day care kids too and are eager to hang out with us.

I wouldn't be doing this if it meant trying to blend cay care and family living together, but the kids will have their own area downstairs and their own bathroom. I will still cook upstairs, but that's no biggie as I'll have help downstairs. The stairs go straight down from the kitchen to the basement.

Just need to get the rest of the paperwork done and let the paint dry...::
