    Totally OT-Drinking water

OK, as of yesterday I've decided the weight has to come off. I'm not going to be going to the gym but doing walking once/twice a day and then a work out program at home.

Anyway-I started the water drinking yesterday. I was in the bathroom about every 10 mins. for a couple of hours it seemed. Today I drank about 2 glasses of water in the morning. We had to come home twice on our walk because I had to go to the bathroom!

Now everyone says soda is a diaretic. I drink way to much and never have to go to the bathroom that much but with the water its all the time. I'm thinking I'm not going to be able to take that much in if I have to come home from my walks to use the bathroom.

So my question is, is this a normal thing when you drink the water? I only had two glasses and was going to drink more but I was afraid I would burst. I don't want to forgo walks but I can't be away from a bathroom if this is what it does to you.

Drink warm water. Cold water flushes out your system and keeps you from being dehydrated. Warm water stays in your stomach longer and helps you feel full. Good luck to you! I am on the same journey.

I find that after a couple of days you don't need to go as much. But i hear you on the weight loss. I don't have time for the gym, and by the end of the day. Dh says that I should be a hundred pounds because I move so much during the day. I think my other issue is portion control. I need to buy those plates that are portion controlled then it would be so much easier for me.

I drink lots of water (close to 12 cups a day sometimes more) and I have to go to the bathroom all the time. When I take the kids out I always have them go before we leave so I make sure I go too. It also depends on how strong your bladder is. After having my daughter I have not been able to hold off going to the bathroom like I used to.

Make sure you're having enough sodium in your diet. Sounds strange, but it got me in trouble with the doctor! I drink over 3-4 liters of water a day on average (ontop of soda/coffee) and when I went in to urgent care (vertigo) I was told my urine was so diluted and my sodium levels were pretty low. He said I needed to fix that because it brings your blood pressure lower (and not in the good way), and your cholesterol higher.
I almost laughed in his face, I thought doctors promoted drinking water.. but I suppose if everything else in your diet changes also, to accommodate the water, so you don't get sick.

OH, yes I know what you mean. Had a friend who was a total health nut actually FAIL a drug test because everything was so messed up because of how much water they drank.

You have to be very, very careful! I actually messed myself up and had a kidney infection from drinking to many electrolites. Also, my daughter was told to start drinking anything but water as she was drinking to much and she wasn't getting enough of something.

You really don't need 8 glasses of water a day, like "they" say.

I too am trying to lose weght and have cut soda out of my diet completely. I try to.drink a gallon of water a day but most days i get to about 64 ounces. It does help with weight.loss and will make you feel.fuller longer. In any case the first week is always the worse. I will.get urgent needs to.go.to the bathroom. But after awhile that will lesson. It will still be more often then when you dont drink water but you wont feel like you are constantly in the bathroom most people dont have problems with sodium as many foods have high sodium level. The problem is when you drink too much water and then sweat it all out due to excessive physical activities . This can be found for marathoners or serious athletes. Most people will not have a problem replenishing lost sodium through normal diet unless they are on super low calorie diets. In that case you will want to drink some elctrolytes after hard work outs or when exercising in extreme heat. But dont sub gatorade for water. Drink water while excercising and then asports drink after exercising. Hth...

I am a yo-yo dieter and whenever I start I always go from drinking almost nothing to 64+ oz. a day and the first few days are the worst!!!! But it does get better. I would purposely drink it all by 2-3pm so that I didn't wake up to pee 2-3x during the night too. And I find room temperature water to be easier to handle too.

Good luck to you!! I am at my all time highest weight and just can't seem to get motivated to lose it.

I think I will drink it after my morning walk and get it out of the way by the afternoon. Then hopefully when I go for my evening walk it will be out of my system! I want this to work sooooo bad as I want to lose 30lbs. The one thing I'm really worried about is walking and get great legs but keeping my big belly that always looks like I'm pregnant!

It's so funny that you posted this. I have been wanting to start drinking more water. I have to tolerate water and can barely get it down. I'm a big soda drinker and if I would give those up I would probably lose 10-15 lbs just from that. I've been trying to talk myself into a water challenge. Like a drink only water for a couple weeks (give myself a deadline)...I figure by that time I will want to keep drinking it and maybe even come to liking it a little more. I know the headaches will come the first few days of no sodas though from the lack of caffeine.

Anyway, anyone want to go on a water challenge with me??

Try that Mio stuff (and Walmart has their own version). You can add just a little flavor to your water and some of them have caffeine in them! I like them pretty well although they have a sweetener. I preferred a product called Ice Water that was only flavoring and no sweetener but I guess it wasn't popular because they took it off the market. Now there is also a sparkling ice water on the market that may solve your craving for fizzy stuff. The orange/mango flavor is good. Again.. it's a sweet drink containing sucralose.

You can also put a pitcher of water in your fridge with slices of lemon or lime or orange in it if you just want a hint of flavor but no sweetener or calories.

I just did this a few weeks ago. One day I decided the Diet Coke had to go. I had made the change (reluctantly) a few years ago from regular Coke to diet but now feel that the diet version is just as bad as the regular version just in a different way so I bought 2 really cute water bottles and one morning, I simply decided that I would only drink water.

So far (it has been 7 weeks) and I have succeeded! happyface
I do drink a few cups of coffee in the mornings to get me going so my headaches from Diet Coke withdrawl isn't so bad but it was rocky for the first two days.

Now, I am at the point where if I do decide to drink anything but water, I feel the unsatiable urge to have to scrap my tongue off! LOL! I found a stray Diet Coke in the back of my fridge a week into my water only change and thought, "Hey, one won't hurt" so I opened it and took a drink......Ugh! Yuck! I couldn't stand it! It was too thick, too sugary (?) and way too much for my mouth to deal with! Now I am ALL water ALL the time.

So honestly, just do it! Make the jump and after 2 or 3 days, you won't even notice anymore that you don't have that usrge to crave a soda....you will actually crave water. I promise!
