    Outdoor Fun For Toddlers? Ideas?

What do you do outdoors for fun with your toddlers? I have a small group this summer, but it's different from our past summers (the past couple years we had an older group for the summer. Mainly school age and mature 3 yr olds we could trust. This year we have mainly 3-4 year olds who I can trust as much as I would a toddler when it comes to outdoors). Everyone's already bored with just spending all of outdoor play on the playground (fenced in, and nothing but pea gravel for the ground). So I'm looking for some other fun things that doesn't require a lot of teacher-led input, but that a "toddler" could be trusted to do without running off from the group. We have a nice-sized paved area, also, but it isn't fenced in. I'd like to let them do things in this area, though, for a change of scenery.... I'm basically just looking for ideas for a twist up to the normal outdoor time. What do you do with your group in the summertime?

Ditto. I have a very energetic, easily bored group and they are already bored stiff with their brand new play area!

The thought I had was to take them in/out of two play areas - one inside the fence the other outside. That might help a little.

We also do a lot of "nature" walks where we look for birds, nests, listen to different sounds, feel different textures, etc.

But I'm really looking forward to hearing what others do, as I need ideas as well!

I have infants and toddlers. I have misters, sprinklers, water table, and baby pool. We also take long walks. I have tunnels, balls, limbo, ride ons for outside. I also have a toddler Step 2 playground thing with slides and bridge. Sometimes I let the dog out with the kids and they think that's fun too. Finally, we have a stepping stone path the kids like to walk around on and pretend they're a train.
