So Done With Varying Schedule Family

The above family has been a thorn in my side for a while now. Despite the fact that I have continually told them that I make plans on my days off (usually have 1 day off/week) the DCM never ceases to inquire if she can switch days (usually she asks every week). She gives me her schedule 5-6 weeks in advance but in a normal 5-6 week period she will ask me to change days around at least 3-4x! It is driving me nuts. I always say NO but she continues to ask. There are other problems with this family, mostly just a complete disregard for my time, lack of common sense on their part. They will never get IT no matter how many notes I send home, etc. They are also moving at the end of June but the thought of watching them all-day (one is a SA) 3x a week for the whole month of June has me seeing stars (I am off the 1st week of June). I really want to terminate & not deal with 3 weeks of heck with them this summer.

Just go ahead and terminate then. If you cant do it, you cant do it.

So just for the month of June you should attatch a fee for any schedule changes or swapping of days. Oh, I don't know maybe a fee of like $25 per change. At least it would make the time seem somewhat bearable. LOL!

I used to have this problem with a PT family but when I told them they couldn't change their schedule but they could add extra days at an extra charge they all of a sudden managed to give me a schedule and stick to it.

I like this idea. Attach money to changing the schedule and they will probably stick to what they originally gave you. If not, at least you will be compensated for the inconvenience. When I did childcare part time I was very protective of my days off. Those were my get things done days and I was not a happy camper when something happened to ruin them.

I have learned quite awhile ago, if a daycare family needs to change their schedule week after week. They need to be paying for fulltime and nothing less. If they are needing you to be available for them 5 days per week, they need to pay for the 5 days, even if they only come 2-3 days, or whatever the case is.
