Director Wants To Use My Work!

Many of you probably can tell who this is, but Im covering my tracks anyway.

Im nearly finished with my CDA. My director is as well and is doing the same specialization as me.

The problem is she keeps demanding to use or copy my work, or have me do hers for her. I dont think that's fair at all, and I have been resisting. I'll just say ok, but keep "forgetting" it or lately just saying no. But she has not stopped her requests.

Im worried about some sort of backlash from refusing these requests, because she has started saying things to the effect of "After all I've done for you...".

oohhh!!! that is tough, I admit i am a person with no back bone i probably would give it to her because i wouldn't want to deal with the back lash, but would give her the messed up copy let her get it wrong a couple of times and will hope she would stop asking me but then that is me. Good luck with everything.

Oh no, no, no. I would never allow anyone to use my work as their own. That is dishonest on HER part AND YOUR part. I would tell her "I don't feel comfortable doing that." If she keeps pushing it, I would start looking for another job and be prepared for the backlash from her. No matter what she did though, I would never give in to this or even give "maybe" type answers.

As a Director myself, that makes my BLOOD.BOIL! That is.really really unfair, unethical, and some other words not useable here. Wow. Just wow. Just a hypothetical, but if you were fired for refusing, huge lawsuit. Ugh. I am so sorry. Definitely don't help her.

Maybe you could look for a job in another center. I would not want to work with her after her immorale requests and demands. You might be able to inform whoever you turn your work into about what your director is doing. If the director is required to obtain her CDA in order to keep her job, you might be able to report her to your licensing specialist or whoever she got hired by. Everyone has someone above them that you can report them to.

I would also document her requests. Should you ever be let go as a repercution, it will help establish you case for unemployment if it is needed.

So what is the policy when youu have a problem with the director?

Most centers have a policy in place usualy something like you are to talk to her and if it is not resolved, then you her and someone else (usualy the 2nd in comband) sit down to talk it out?

you might whant to find out what the policy is even if she denys ever having asked it would mostliekly stop and you could and should make a big deal with everyone at the center about having the meeting (not the topic) that way if she "retaleates" then you have witness to the timing of your complaints.

Agree with this. Totally unethical, particularly to use her position in this way. Doing her work for her is doing both you and her a disservice -- you, because you have put time and effort into your work and her because she is definitely not learning if she is copying or using your work. Regardless of what she believes she has done for you, what she is asking is unprofessional and unethical. I would not help her -- it could affect you adversely if it is ever discovered that you did her work for her. Do you have an owner or someone higher up than your director that you could go to?

Colleges take plagiarism very seriously. I would give her a copy of her schools policy and let her know you don't want her to get kicked out of the program, therefore you will not help her.

I would go one higher than her and explain that you are being taken advantage of. Tell them you are not willing to be treated like this anymore. Then ask them what they are going to do to ensure it will not happen again. Tell them you want a copy of the complaint you are filing (or type one up, and sign it and give it to the person in charge of her so you have a paper trail).

That same day I would go to the person in charge of the CDA and explain what has happened. Then I would go to the director and tell her directly what you have done (notified others) and that you do not appreciate being taken advantage of.

This way everyone knows, there will be no room for her to keep trying to use you and no rumors or miscommunications swirling because you addressed everyone at once before one thing leads to another.

She was so "upset" that I told her no, she went to the CDA people (our local CCR&R), who actually AFFIRMED her desire to use my stuff, so she'll get higher scores on her observation, which will make them look better. They TOLD me to let her use it.

There's really no one above her to complain to. She heads the organization that owns the daycare.

I felt so defeated. But its just a lesson plan.

None of my real CDA work will she ever get, though. Thanks for all your answers. You all strengthened my resolve.

I just feel so cheap, like I have to let her copy my hard work to keep my job.

I just choked on my coffee! I am amazed that the CDA people are allowing, encouraging, supporting plagiarism. Hey PM me if you can, so we can talk more and protect your identity because I do think I know which member you are.

Who exactly did she speak too? Was it maybe local representatives/coordinators or was it the actual council? I cannot believe they would say that to her! I completely uderstand how you feel as I would feel the same!! I mean you do all the work so she can take credit for it as well....how unfair and how unethical for her! As a human being, I would feel uncomfortable sliding by using someone else's work so I can't believe she is even in the early childhood field teaching little ones when she has this kind of character!

...and you said "it is just a lesson plan" and I think that is uncutting yourself because it isn't "just a lesson plan" as I found them to be the basis for understanding how to apply the concepts and ideas to developmental areas of learning and development so lesson plans are a HUGE part of the educational and daily curiculum. Lesson plans are work...IMHO.

Oooo, I am just sooooo MAD for you!!!

((((hugs)))) that you are having to deal with this! Honestly, I would find someone even higher to voice your complaints to but I suppose there is that element of worrying about job security too huh? Ugh!!!!...hang in there....atleast you (and all of us) know YOU are a stand up person who should be VERY proud of yourself!! Hang in there...we are all here for you! lovethis

Just ask her to remind you with an email. hehe! Just in case...

She sounds like a lazy dirt bag.

Are you sure that the CDA people "affirmed her desire to use my stuff"? I would contact them directly and see if that is the case. If so, I would be very surprised as this does not seem ethical.
