I have a DCG who attends school. Her mother gets her here 5 min before the bus get here to pick her up to go to school. This poor little girl has to shovel in her food so fast that I'm afraid she's going to choke. I always make sure her breakfast is on the table waiting for her. So today I made pancakes and sausage and opened a yogurt for her. Mom calls at the time she should already be here to tell me that she lost the time and would feed DCG at home. Now I wouldn't normally be upset but today DCG was the only child I had scheduled for breakfast. What a waste of food.

It doesn't have to be a waste, pop it all in the refrigerator and eat it for your lunch. Or someone's breakfast tomorrow. Sorry the dcm did that to you.Hee hee! Look, I have a signature!- Flag

Can you charge her for missed breakfast when there is no notice given for late arrivals? I personally would put a stop to feeding this child anyway since she has to shovel in her food. It's not your problem if mom is too late for the child to eat. Offer them breakfast if they get here before X time and after that breakfast will not be offered. It will be their choice.
My policy is that breakfast is served ay 8:15am my kids don't come until 8:30-9am so I never serve breakfast.- Flag

Are you on the food program?
If so don't they have a time limit as when you can serve breakfast and how much time you must allow a child to eat? I know I must allow at least 20 mins for breakfast, 30 mins for lunch and 15 min for snack.- Flag

I would tell DCM that DCG needs to be dropped off by ___ time to ensure she has time to eat before going to the bus.
If she can't accommodate that, tell her that you will no longer offer breakfast so DCG will need to be fed.
Is eating breakfast at school an option?
What about making "take along" meals in the event she doesn't have time to eat before the bus. It's definitely not the greatest breakfast but I'd consider sending a juice box (100% juice of course) and maybe a pop tart, a granola bar, toast or even a go-gurt just so this kid can eat.- Flag

forgtot to add maybe consider adding a new policy for next school year something like children recieving a ride to school by school bus or otherwise
must arive by X:XX in order to recieve breakfast. I have one in my policies I have no idea if it would be hard to implement because I have no before school kids, only after school.- Flag

I think the breakfast on the go is a great idea except our buses have a no food policy. I have tried to tell mom that she needs to arrive earlier; and she does for a day or two. Then right back to the same thing. I think next year I will tell parents that if their child is riding the bus they must arrive no later than 7:15. that will give each child 25 min. before they have to go outside to wait for bus.
Thanks for all the great ideas.- Flag
