Does Anyone Have A Doctor's Note Policy...

that they would be willing to share. DCM called yesterday morning and said DCG would not be coming due to having had a rough night and had mouth pain. DCM suspected Coxsackie and planned to take DCG to ped. I texted DCM later and asked how everything went. Coxsackie was confirmed but DCG was feeling fine. DCM said she would see how the night went. Having had children with Coxsackie before, I know that it is contagious but wasn't sure of the incubation period etc. I asked DCM what the doctor had said about her returning to day care. DCM said she asked and doc. was vague and just said to "see how she feels." I was a little put off by this because I didn't think the doc. took the fact that she would be around many other children seriously. I felt really, really badly telling DCM that she shouldn't come today, but felt that it was necessary to protect the group. I was thinking that in the future it would be helpful to require doctor's notes for all contagious illnesses (except common colds). Thoughts? Does anyone have a policy they would share?

I just have this written in- I may ask for a Dr.'s note, to return to daycare.

Here is a great fact sheet about HFM. It explains hte incubation and exclusion times too!

I NEVER allow a Dr to tell me when a child can return to care. I decide when they can return. The only thing I require from a Dr is the diagnosis.

This is a part of my contract:

Note: Once the child is removed from daycare due to illness, they may not return to
daycare until symptoms requiring removal are no longer present. The child must
also be void of any contagious disease, unless accompanied by a doctor’s note stating
the illness in question is not contagious, and the child is otherwise feeling well
enough to participate in our daily schedule. Parents agree to keep their child home
if he/she has exhibited the following symptoms in the night or in the morning......etc

        Hope that helps
