    SA Saga . . .

I had decided a while back (actually just these past few weeks) to re-structure my hours & switch to contracted hours to cut the times I had kids in care (at one point - at least 1 - 2 day a week my doors are open 11 1/4 hours - granted no one family is here that long but it's just too long for me!). One family never responded to my newsletter with the new hours BUT they did arrive at the correct time (20 min later than normal drop-off so I guess they got it).

About 1 1/2 weeks ago I had told DCM 2 (I only have her SA child 2 afternoons week - I only watch her after school - not before) that I would be closing ealier each day. I knew it would be an inconvenience for her but the child is only here 2 days a week after school so I was prepared to lose her. I think I am DONE with SAs anyway. Too much drama! The DCM texted me that she "had pulled a ton of strings to pick up at the time she was picking up at - 5:45 pm & she didn't think she could ever manage to get here by 5:00. I can't make that work". This texting took place @ 11 days ago right before spring break began. I responded to her text by politely saying I understood if she would need to seek other arrangements. I had not heard 1 peep out of this DCM since then & figured she had made other arrangements (no contract), after all it was 11 days ago! We go back to school on Tues. So she texts me this afternoon asking if DCC can come B & A school (making her now be in my care even longer hours) & if I could do that she***might*** be able to get here by 5:00 but no guarantees! I don't understand why parents wait so long to "figure things out". Did she think I would just cave to her request? I assumed she had moved on & I told her exactly that in my return e-mail. I let her know I no longer had a spot for her child. And it felt good to do so!

    Good for you.

Communication is a two way street and 11 days is far too long to expect you to simply be standing by waiting so I would probably have done the same thing and filled her space.

ALWAYS give a deadline where they must sign a contract and communicate future plans to you. There is no reason you should be left wondering or assuming.
