Where is your crying spot? I have a kid who cries alot over many things. Just cried the other day because he didn't like the song I chose for music time. I just ignore or in this case told him if you don't like the song don't dance. I think I like the idea of the crying spot. Not sure where to put it though? Maybe a chair with a 'tears' photo on it?? Do you have books or anything with it?

I don't have a specific designated spot. I just send kids away from the group or into another room just so they aren't getting any attention for their behaviors and I don't have to listen to it...kwim?- Flag

I have a place for time-out and a separate room called the "quiet room." The preschool aged kids go to the quiet room for their "crying spot" (french doors stay open), and they know that it is not the same as a time out. They are free to come and go as they please in that room to take time to be alone or calm down when needed.
It provides them with a safe place where they can collect themselves, without applying a punishment to them for their feelings, since they conrol when they leave (the only rule is that if you are still crying you have to stay in the quiet room until you are done).
It has been very effective thus far for me.- Flag

Just for the record...this does not apply to new children who are genuinely upset and a little scared. I use it for established kids who choose to whine.- Flag

I have a separate nursery and a separate big kids sleeping room. Plenty of room to give each kid their own beds for some horizontal crying.- Flag

I have a separate room they can calm down in. Some times it works some times it doesn't. I just tell the person throwing a tantrum to go in the crying room and calm down and when they have then can come out and play there is no poster or anything just a place for them to go. Everyone else is outside that room and playing and don't pay much attention to it.- Flag

A separate room for the criers who are really bad....if it is just an occasional crier, they go to the most boring corner in the room. Criers dont get something cushy and some place that they want to go to.- Flag

How do you stand the crying. my toddler just melted down and screamed today anytime he didn't get his way. He usually pretty good, but today he screamed anytime he didn't get his way or I didn't hold him. I thought I would let him cry it out but it just escalated and seemed he would puke so I gave in and held him. I will regret that I guess but I kept thinking maybe he was getting sick or something. His behavior has been off all week. Not Clueless anymore- Flag
