I put signs up for everything and don't really care if anyone is insulted.

Disprespecting my daycare and my policies is insulting to me so I feel a sign is a nice way of saying things I would otherwise not be so nice about.

They are all free to glare away at me if they so choose.
Just want to say I admire your matter-of-fact non-filter! I wish I had the guts!

Do you know if you technically had parents pick up right at your closing time, and didn't leave til at least 5-10 min. later each day- take that times 5 days a week, times monthly. The same way at drop off time, if they come 5-15 min. early- there would be alot of hrs. we are working extra!!

When I set my closing time, I did it with the expectation that parents would arrive no later than that time. I give parents a run down of their kids' day and talk about any issues before they leave. Usually everyone is gone within 15 minutes after arriving. If they need more time to talk with me about an issue, I don't mind unless I have to be somewhere. I guess I should call my closing time my "arrival time" instead.

I;m surprised no one has mentioned the " Will charge $1 per minute that you are late" rule! That usually makes parents be better about being on time.

Do up a document stating "I close the daycare doors at 5pm. For every minute you are here beyond this time, I will now start charging $1/minute"

Or is this because they got caught in traffic on the way from work?

I have several that arrive at 5:00PM on the dot.

The arrival chit-chat was interrupting my students already here so I smile at the parent, greet the child, and we move on.
I suppose I need to do the same for the end of the day because I clean the entire Preschool prior to having the opportunity to move on to other events (dinner, errands, family time).

I close at 530pm. A minute beyond that you are charged $1.00 per minute. That dollar is charged not from the time you pull in but the time you exit my home.

If they want to stick around and chat, make sure they know you will be charging for it from now on!
