For Those of You That Have Paid Sick and Vacation Days for Yourself

For those of you that have paid sick days and paid vac. days- How many do you have of each-
I have been doing daycare now for 9 yrs. and just lately I keep getting sick from daycare children, or my children are- last yr. H1N1 from a daycare child. I had to close, because my daughter was so sick. Now twice this yr. my child was vomiting and myself another time, vomiting, from a daycare child. UGHH!! Let alone all the green drainage, fevers, etc. etc........
I am thinking about adding sick days or personal days in my contract. I have thought about this for many yrs. but never have done it.
RIght now my contract states if my child or myself becomes ill or contagious with something, I will take the day unpaid or it will come out of my vacation days. I think it really ****s, knowing it is totally from a daycare child!!!!

If i have to close due to illness whether or not it is caused by a daycare child it is unpaid. Only one of my parents gets paid sick days, the other two do not. I also do not think it's fair that if i have to close that they have to pay me and and another person to watch their child. I suppose it depends on how your economy is also, what the norm is. I do have 1 week unpaid vacation and i just added the beginning of the year 5 unpaid sick/pesonal days.

Mine is 5 paid personal/sick days, anything after that would be unpaid. Major holidays are paid and I have 2 weeks vacation paid at half the weekly rate. (I give them 2 weeks vacation paid at half, also)

You will find alot of polarizing opinions on paid vs unpaid holidays/vacation.

I think that having your sick days paid can be a detourant for bringing sick kids to daycare. Although it doesnt always guarantee you wont get sick.

          Sick Days

I changed my contract last year to include sick days. I had only taken 1 sick day between starting in 2009 and 2010, so I added 3 paid sick days to any new kids. Any days over 3 would be unpaid.

In January, my dd and I got pneumonia. So, I've already used 2 out of 3 sick days with current clients. Some I didn't change their contracts, so I didn't get paid by them.

I do not take a paid vacations, but I do charge full price if they take one.

Is it strange that none of my families have ever taken their children on vacation? I just thought of this. One took a trip to Bahamas to get married last year--so of course they didn't take dcg. Another set of parents went on a cruise and left dcg with grandma. The parents of my dcb are currently in Miami, while he's here with me.

I've only ever taken my daughter with us. She's almost 3. We've been to San Antonio, Orlando, and are planning a trip to Chicago in June. (*I will say that I thought about not taking dd to Chicago since the trip is for dh's 30th bday and our 5th wedding anniversary happyface.)

none of mine have ever took a vacation day either!! I have 3 families, and they have never taken a day off, just spring, Winter, and Summer breaks only. They are all here every other day during the yr.
