    Ever Sold A Daycare Biz?

We are thinking of moving in the future and are wondering how to go about selling a daycare business - or what to do? Any body ever had experiences doing that? It is in our house - so we're wondering if we should try to market the house as a daycare home and see if that sells like a business as opposed to just selling our house. Please post if you have ever done this or had any experience.

hey, I have no real experience, but I have seen a friend of mine go through this. The realtor just sold the house as a house, but did mention that the home was a great in home daycare. Reason was, the license can't be transferred over to the new owner. The new owner would have to go through city and state inspections all over again anyway. I think the only thing that was transferrable was the corporate name, if the owner decided to keep it, which they didn't anyway, so there was no real way to sell the house as a business, but just a house.

    hope that helps

One of the gals in my area runs a daycare out of a home she does not live in but uses only for child care. She did try to list the child care (with children) as a package deal

However, the parents she had all agreed to stay with the new owner for 30 days and then were free to leave if they didn't like it. Which I think is only fair as there is no guarantee the new owner would click with all the current children.

Anyways, she had multiple people interested but in the long run no takers so she ended up selling the house as a house and that was that.

Sorry there wasn't much helpful info in any of that, but thought I'd share anyways.

if its the home you live in I am confused??? You wouldn't be selling the business, you'd be selling the HOME. It's a house - unless you did major renovations to turn it into more of a daycare building I'm not sure I could see how it could be sold as a business. And like someone else said - a home daycare provider license is usually very different than say tranferring ownership of a Goddard School.

I moved and took my daycare with me, the people who live in my old house now have a family room instead of a daycare playroom room, LOL!

It is NOT worth it. I have a center. I inquired with some realtors last year. The building by itself is valued at 500k, its a commercially zoned building. The most any realtor was willing to list it at was 500k. So no, I was not about to give away the established business for free.

What if the business is trademarked? Is there a way to sell that as well? This thought has been on my mind as well, I love doing the daycare, I worked super hard on making the business and the trademark and it has been successfull but at the end of the day I would love to give all of my attention to my. Children ....

by trademark, i assume you mean incorporating your business. You can sell the corporation but the question is, would anyone buy it? if someone had to start all over again to get their license...what would make your corporation name that appealing to buying it? would u help them get their licenses? would you throw in all the equipment? would you throw in all the clients, and assure them they would stay? would you throw in a business model like how mcdonalds sells their business/franchise?

sure, corporations can be bought... but it would really need to stand out. otherwise...people would rather start from scratch.
