I know a lot depends on the state, but if u have private insurance who do you have it through? I have been looking and can't find anything that doesn't have a ridiculous deductible and high premiums. It's insane! I'm talking 10 to 20 grand deductibles before they will cover anything and costing close to 600 per month. I am blown away.

Sorry, Health Insurance. My husbands employeer doesn't offer it and we have gone without for a long time. With our kids getting older and more physically involved in things, we have been looking into it.
I am shocked at how little is covered for what you have to pay per month.- Flag

We are in the same boat. We have our health insurance through Coventry. For just my husband and myself, we pay about $700 a month. Our deductible is $1000 for out of network, prescriptions are tiered and start out at $10. Our emergency room co pay is $100 and our copay for in network providers is only $30.- Flag

My husband and I have carefirst triple option and we pay 327 per month for the 2 of us. It's good because there's free preventative care, so we don't pay for check ups. I think our deductible is 3000.- Flag

I have Blue Cross with a $5000 deductible. No copays. I pay everything until it hits $5000, then everything else that year is covered. I pay $194 a month. And I'm close to 60 years old. Not the best, but it was all I could find that I could afford. The premiums used to go up a little every year, but I got a notice last fall that now they can go up at any time with 30 (maybe it was 60) days notice, which stinks.- Flag

The cheapest I have found so far was $387 for a family of 5 with a $20,000 deductible. It covers nothing till you meet that $20,000, not even preventative care. After the $20,000 they only cover 80%.
Absolutely aggravating.
The majority if plans are around $550 with a $10,000 deductible, with 100% covered after the $10,000, but still no preventative care covered.
I live in a state with extremly high malpractice insurance for doctors and a low population so medical care here is very high. New patient exams are $300.00. That may be average I don't know.
My son hurt his knee so we were looking to take him in, it will cost us $900.00for the exam, xrays and to drain the fluid. New patients have to pay for the whole initial exam and treatment. That's my mortgage payment!!- Flag

Have you checked at www.ehealthinsurance.com? Also, you might talk to an independent insurance agent in your town. Sometimes they can find better deals for you. Good luck.- Flag

We just couldn't afford it, it was one of the things I had to leave behind when I quit my job. DH's work has no affordable family plan. My son is on state care, thank goodness. I'm trying to keep healthy, but this is not the job for health! I'm really hoping DH gets the new job he's applying for, it would cost $10 a month to add a spouse.- Flag

We are in the same boat. Things have gotten so pricey in just the last 2 years. The plans we are looking at will cost about 1000 a month and not kick in anything untill the 10000 to 15000 deductible is paid. 3 or 4 years ago when we were looking we could get a plan for 250 to 500 and the deductibles were 5000. President Obama's health care reform really hurt the individules who are buying there own. Insurance companies have had to hike there prices due to having to accept children with pre exsisting conditions, parents are now allowed to keep there children on there plan until they are 26 wether they are in college or not, single or married, and Health insurance companies will be prohibited from levying annual limits and lifetime limits on coverage. There will be more changes in the years to come yet. I'm not placing all the blame of the sharp increase in health insurance on President Obama. I just know that when a few of his policys were put into effect our health insurance and 5 of our self employed friends almost double in cost. The cost of health care in general keeps going up, the government doesn't pay full price for medicare reciepents so hospitals raise the prices for every one else to make up the difference. Hospital workers are now more skilled. Even ten years ago there were certain jobs that could be tought to an employee, now you need a 1 or 2 year technical degree. There for the pay has increased. Nurses are payed much better in the last 15 to 20 years. We have so much technology and with that there is the cost.
Sorry to have gotten off track. I wish you the best of luck.- Flag
