    Last 5 Scheduled Interviews

#1 - kept e-mailing how much she wanted to meet me, but rescheduled 4 times, no contact after the last

#2 - called 3 times to schedule the appt and ask questions, called 5 mins after the scheduled appt to say that she couldn't find a ride. I didn't respond to next 2 calls.

#3 - called and wanted to come right that minute, I accommodated. She wanted someone who would speak Spanish to her child and work every Sat for regular rate.

#4 - called twice to schedule an appt, no call and no show

#5 - called twice to schedule an appt and ask questions. I called her to find out she had made other daycare arrangements.

I did interviews for a month before I had any takers. I was really down in the dumps! Then I had 2 people come who were interested and then another family of 2 and they all started a week apart.

they don't sound like daycare material so it's kind of a good thing I think!! Here's hoping the next 5 are all winners and you get to choose the best of the best

#2 was definitely not what I am looking for in a parent. She wanted me to pick the child up at her house before she left to catch the bus, drop the child off after she got home. She needed every Sat, plus 2 hrs late every other week for normal weekly rate. She also wanted to know if I would take her out to the county offices so that she could apply for childcare subsidy and then take her back with the completed paperwork.

My policies handle every part of what your wrote. The only reason why is because I too have had requests like yours, only you got them all rolled up into one nice neat little client package ::.

              My response would have been:
"Oooh "Susan", these are special requests. I LOVE special requests. Special requests like everything that you just requested are additional services and require additional payment. On top of my weekly $160 rate it would cost you another $50 just for each Saturday, and another $5 per hour for each additional hour that you need me to stay open past my closing time during the week is another $10 a week. You live 2 miles from my home so at a rate of $.51 per mile to and from my home twice each day it'll be an additional $4.08 per day to pick your child up and drop her back off, that's $24.48. That comes out to be $244.48 per week for childcare. Don't forget that I need the first week of care and 2 weeks worth of care for a deposit up front befor you start. So that's ... let's see here ... oh yes, $733.44. Now how far did you say that the county offices are so I can work out the mileage rate? And then of course there's the cost of my time which only comes out to $5 per hour ..." etc etc. You all get the point ::

Hope it goes better. I had a lady come out twice and was suppose to come out a third time with the husband. Emailed me right before she was suppose to come(I didn't get it until later) saying they desided to go with some one cheaper and watched less kids. They only wanted 4 1/2 hours of care right in the middle of the day. Right now I only have been taking on two full times and one is leaving. I also charge by the hour so she was looking for some one to only take her child for less than $60 a week. When they started out they asked for 6 1/2 hours a day and I was fine with that, but I really didn't know if I'd take him for only 4.

I had my first no show last week. Never in a million years whould I stand someone up with not even the courtesy if a 30 second phone call. It's so rude.

I have had 3 no shows in the last two weeks. I have started a log of no show parents because in my experience they will call again and act like the no show never happened.

Good luck tonight. I hope it goes better for you!

Very sweet lady with 4 kids. I'll be watching the youngest 2, 3 days a week, part-time. Right now, part-time is better than nothing.
