my own children are pretty vocal, a couple of times of them saying that they stink upon drop off usually works too.- Flag

If it appears to be the overnight diaper, then I would say something.
However, some kids are just like clockwork with the morning bowel movement and he may just be doing it in the car and it's nothing more than bad timing. When you gotta, you gotta go!- Flag

I would definitely say something. This used to happen all the time here. I started keeping a diaper and wipes right near the entrance to my space. If I detected a dirty/very soggy diaper I would say "Oh geez, looks like he needs to be changed before you go. It is just too hectic at drop-off for me to change him as soon as he arrives. Thanks!" You would be amazed how quickly it stops happening.
If I know it is a parent who would never intentionally do it, then I just accept the child and take care of it when the parent leaves. You know which families are ignoring a dirty diaper and leaving it for you....they are the ones who do all the other annoying stuff, too!- Flag

10 times!?! I would have said something after the second time.
I know you may not feel like you are good with words, but honestly if you are going to stay in this line of work and manage to stay sane too....you need to find your voice and use it!!
Everytime it becomes necessary, just keep telling yourself you are speaking up for the child! It makes it easier to know you are being the voice for a child- Flag

After reading through some posts here I feel like such an awesome daycare mom!I'm still on the parent side of things as we haven't moved into our home that I"m going to be providing care in yet - but if I get my little guy out of the car and he smells funny I'll bring him in and ask if I can run to the bathroom or another room and change him real quick. I've never dropped off (to my knowledge anyway) any of my kids at daycare with a dirty diaper. I'd definitely say something if I were you! Even if he is doing it on the ride the parent should still take it upon themselves to change the kid before walking back out the door.

Thank you allblackcat I need a voice bad, how is the question
I hate confrontation and I guess afraid of their reaction. I'll write a letter today to hand out. I'll tell them that I handed to all parents but really my other parents are great

If I were you, when they arrive, I woudl check the baby's diaper quickly and if he is in need of a change, hand the baby back to them and say "Oh-oh, looks like Jr needs a fresh diaper. You can change him right here." Offer mom a place to change him and smile sweetly as if it isn't your responsibility (because it isn't) and after having to have done that a few times they should get the hint.

I have a 9 month old, has WONDERFUL parents. She comes in almost every morning poopy. She goes in the car seat on the way here. Dad hands her off and says sorry she's done it again. If Mom drops off, she always comes in and changes her before she leaves. It is just DCG's time to poop.- Flag

I had a family dropping off their 18 months old in the diaper from the night before, and still in PJ - I didn't say anything at first, then I started to get annoyed by it, and put a note on the newsletter to "please drop off your children with a fresh diaper". Still ignoring it, and she says that he fills the diaper on the way to my house (3 minutes ride..) because he drinks a lot of water..
Then one morning she came in, dropped the boy on my brand new couches (literally, a week old...) and said bye... I was making breakfast, and the boy was sleeping (it was 6.30am). Twenty minutes later I go to pick him up, and what I see is a huge pee stain on my couch... poor kid was soaked to the neck, obviously the diaper from the night before, couldn't hold anymore...
I was soooo angry, that when she called mid-morning to check on him, I told her what happened, and that she needed to bring him over clean, or I would terminate...
At the end I did terminate them anyway, for other reasons...- Flag

I did say something and DCM would deny ignoring it and say he must have just pooed on the way here.
I then posetd it in my newsletter that children are to arrive clean and dressed for the day including a FRESH diaper. again ignored.
Then I started pointing out the smell when they arrived. Nothing makes a linger DCM rush out the door faster than "oh I think I Johnny went poo"- Flag
