    Starting 3 Month Old

This may sound dumb... I'm starting a 3 month old in a couple of weeks. Thats the youngest i've had here. I just want some advice on a schedule you would do with him. He will be here from 6:45 a.m. - 4:45 p.m. At two months he is colicky and fights sleep. She said he sleeps about 4 hours a day.

eat when he's hungry, sleep when he's tired, play in between, whether it's in a swing or on the floor on a tummy mat or infant gym or being snuggled by you.

He'll devise his own schedule and you can start to shift his to yours when he's a bit older.

Great idea! I have a 6 month old who's been here for 3 months. I love the EASY method that someone listed. So many moms nurse/feed their babies to sleep. As we all know, then they don't burp well and then they don't learn to put themselves to sleep. Now I'm all for a baby having a full tummy so he/she sleeps well, but this way seems to work so much better. Eat, Activity, Sleep and Your time (or something like that. Although we're crazy busy while the babies sleep). The little one I have could make it about an hour before she needed a nap again. I had her in a good routine of a short nap in the AM, long nap right about the time the toddlers were napping and a short nap again before mom picked up. Then gma stayed with them for 3 weeks. She still came to me, but I think she got held a lot because she won't do the long nap anymore. But she's also teething and is learning to put herself to sleep - no swing, no adult walking her like mom does. She's doing well but I cannot wait for that long nap again

Ya know, having a six month old of my own right now, I can tell you that the sleep change is probably mostly developmental. My son was the Super Awesome Magical Sleeping Baby for the first 5.5 months of his life...he's one of those kids that, even though he's fully breastfed, slept through the night on a regular basis from the time he was just a few weeks old. Ten and eleven hour stretches with no more than a short midnight nursing session were not uncommon at all. Great naps during the day, awesome sleep at night, as likely to fall asleep playing on the floor or alone in bed as while nursing or being held.

I can tell you that nothing has changed with me, but his sleep went to crap recently. I mentioned it to my sister (with three kids) and she said it's pretty normal, and so long as I try to keep the routines the same, he should revert to the good napping and sleeping in a couple months.
