Who Checks Photo ID's?

So as i was reading the other post by daycare I am wondering who checks ID's i think its a great idea and I plan on implementing that for future interviews!!!

You beat me to it. I was going to ask how could I go about doing the ID check without sounding crazy?

What approach should we take to do it?

Yeah I was thinking about this too. Like I said in the other post, I had already decided that I was going to start checking ID's upon signing a contract. I already added it to my contract and will start doing it Jan 1st but I never thought to do it for my interviews.

I'm wondering if anybody already does this and what they think the outcome is. I'm wondering if parents feel uneasy or if they just go with it if a provider asks for their DL.

I always have made a copy of the id from someone I've never met that is picking up a child but have never for an interview. I do have them put soc# and dl# on the contract just in case but have never actually checked them.

As previous poster I too check ID's of persons picking up for the first time but never for enrollment

I wasnt sure if you meant at pick up and it reminded me of a funny story....
I had a child that was in the process of being adopted and the case worker was coming to pick her up for the dr or something. I live one house from the corner and the street in front of my house was being repaired so you couldnt get into my driveway. so the case worker comes and we ask for ID, she didnt have it, so we made her go back to the car and get it. boy was she MAD! we laughed when she left, but with my luck she would have gotten us in trouble if we hadnt asked!

I do ask to see their drivers licenses at our initial interview. I explain that I do it for the safety of the children in my care. I offer 24/5 services (with some weekends for clients I've had for a few years now). When I've had interviews, there is usually at least one extra dck here, and of course my kids. How they feel about it, I don't know and I don't really care. I do it for our safety, and it lets them know I find safety VERY important.

I also verify peoples' licenses when the kids are picked up by a person that is not their parent. The parent MUST tell me ahead of time that so-and-so is going to pick up their kid, and I ask what type of vehicle they drive, and have them remind the relative/friend that they need to bring a photo id. Once I've met a relative once or twice, I remember them, then don't usually check.

I ask for 2 pieces of ID for the contract. I always ask for ID if someone is picking up that I haven't met before.

If you're worried about how it sounds you could always blame it on your licensor, i.e., "My licensor has suggested that it would be a good idea."

YUP! I check them every time someone new picks up. I give mom & dad a heads-up first of course.

I tell all families upon enrollment that I have to see a photo ID whenever someone new picks up for the first time. It can be awkward to ask Grandma or Uncle Joe to prove their identity but I just say, "I wouldn't want anyone to take precious Sally!" and that usually diffuses any tension!

Exactly, me too. I suppose I can create a "visitors log" sheet for the times that I hold interviews and when the DCK's get picked up by other adults. I was thinking of having a spot for the date, time, name, DL# and DOB that I would write down, not the adult. Then have a spot at the end for them to sign.

I like the idea about blaming it on licensing. Nowadays you can never be too careful.

I think stating it like GretasLittleFriends did (post #7) would make it completley plausible and parents would totally understand and maybe even be lured into wanting to choose you as a provider if safety like that was a priority.

I have seen a lot of really paranoid parents over the last few years and I actually think checking I.D.'s for safety reasons would be a selling point around here.

that is a great post, and I NOW after what happened in my situation, I will ask all clients to fill out an online application prior to arrival.
parents name, address, phone, email address and reason they need child care, what is the childs current daycare arrangement, how did you hear about us, etc

When they arrive, I am going to inform them that for the safety of my family and all children in my care that I must have that form on file and then just ask to see ID to verify it.

I am not 100%sure on my wording that I will use just yet, but will get to that.
