Well, honestly, if he was in care in the past 7 days or so, he has already exposed others in care. I had a child with chicken pox several years ago and did not exclude her. My families all knew and agreed that they'd take the chance, as they were already exposed and they all felt it was better for their kids to get it when they were little anyway.

You know I have a funny story about this. I had a child who got the chicken pox (four years old) and didn't come in for obvious reasons. When other kids asked where she was and I told them that she was sick with the pox we made a fun day of making her get well cards and such. Well, the littles told their parents who then called me about it. I thought "Oh lord, here it comes" and braced myself for a hailstorm of concerns (none of the other kids had ever gotten the pox). To my surprise they wanted the child's number so they could see if her mom was interested in a play date so thet their kids could be exposed. Yes, all of them. They all got it (one had already got it from her) and I had a nice little vacation. I took the time to plan and disinfect and such and slowly they each came back (with a Dr.'s note mind you) and yes I still got paid.

Don't most kids these days get immunized so they DON'T get it? I know if you get it as an adult it can be much worse, etc but why in the heck would they purposely try to get their kids sick? I didn't thnik many kids got it these days anymore b/c of the immunizations, I know all 3 of my boys got the chicken pox vaccination. Is it common for kids to NOT get the shot?

Oh lord! I wouldn't do that to my daughters (ages of 7 and 9). Both of them haven't gotten chicken pox yet. They are very rarely to get sick.

I did that 12 years ago,.. 11 all at once. with the pox. My son came home from first grade, with the pox... so,.. we did alot of outside in the kiddie pool oatmeal baths with every one.
But,... I have 3 little ones right now, one is special needs. I just cant risk her health. You know? she actually texted me last night about 830 and asked about today. She said he hadnt broke out at all and she didnt know what the rash earlier in the week was. I had to turn her down because it would put me over numbers. I feel bad because I started 2 new kids two weeks ago but I asked the mom,.. do you want a full time slot? Im interviewing new families and I wanted you to get first picks. She said,.. No,.. I really dont want to have to pay for every day if he isnt coming,.. I told her, ok, well Im interviewing two new families this week. If you want to stay drop in you have to call each day,... and if I dont have room I cant take him. She is like,.. no,.. I really dont want to pay when he isnt there. I said ok. and I left it at that. Today was the first time I told her no. In 3 years. But,.. I gave her the chance. You know?

I love this story! This is my plan for my own children. As soon as someone we know gets the pox, we are having a "pox party". I'd much rather my children get natural, lifetime immunity than to give them another questionable vaccine. Doctors and manufacturers cannot guanrantee the safety or effectiveness of ANY mandated vaccine so I will take my chances with the mild, common childhood diseases like chicken pox. Has anyone ever read the list of ingredients for some of these vaccines???

Have any of you providers chosen not to vaccinate or delay vaccinations for your own kids for religious, philosophical, medical or other reasons? Would any of you refuse a family who didn't vacinate? Should this be a new thread?

Just my humble opinion, but this is why you don't intentionally get your kids sick...

"For many years, chicken pox was felt to be a harmless disease of childhood. In fact, there are about 6,500 to 9,000 hospitalizations annually in the United States due to the illness, and about one hundred to two hundred deaths each year from complications due to chicken pox. While the complications and death rate for healthy children are minimal, the illness can be much more severe in adolescents and adults. After the chicken pox illness is over, the VZV establishes permanent latency in the dorsal root ganglia of the spinal cord. It is possible for the virus to reactivate at a later time and cause shingles, a painful skin disorder"

My daughter had some serious reactions to her first set of immunizations (this is VERY rare) and we decided, along with her doctor, to not continue her shots. My son however has all of his and I keep them up to date. Our daughter got the chicken pox two years ago and it was horrible! She was in the hospital for close to a week it was so severe. So I just cant understand anyone wanting to willingly inflict this on your child. She is not a sickly child and has nothing wrong with her (her doctors just said that this is the sort of thing that can happen with the chicken pox) I am so thankful that we most likely will not have to worry about this with our son

when we had the outbreak, over half of the kids who got the chicken pox had had the vaccination and STILL caught it.

Yes, having the virus young, can result in shingles later BUT, it's better that then get chicken pox as an adult, which can be deadly.

My kids all had the chicken pox, and we were glad they all had it within weeks of eachother. If they get it bad, there is an RX to help control it. When mine were little the vaccine just came out, and I was not experimenting on my kids!
