    2012 Holidays

I'm making my calendar for 2012 (I know, I know, but I have my reasons for doing it this early) and I've noticed that due to the way the dates fall (Christmas is on a Tuesday), I would normally be closed the 24th, 25th, and 26th (that is, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday)...and only working 2 days that week. Then closed a couple days (well, one day) the following week (Tuesday January 1). I'm thinking of closing December 24th through January 1. Does this sound fair? What are you guys going to do?

Those are actually my "vacation days." I did that because my son will be out of school. However, I'm not sure how it would be taken by the parents if you take additional vacations throughout the year, because that's already 10 days in december. Lets hear what others have to say as I'm curious too.

I like taking my vacation during the summer. for the holidays, I take whatever days off according to my contract and if that means I am only open a day or two because of how the holidays fall, so be it.

Ditto here too. I even go a little more above and beyond so don't think that I'm crazy here because although I say that if a holiday falls on a weekend then I close a friday or Monday I don't always close (only if we do something as a family). I go stir crazy and miss my DCK's if I close and end up home alone since my DH doesn't always get holidays off (he's on-call for the county and leave it to the county's computers to crash on holidays).

I take some other time during the year, which all together with the December stuff will add up to my "contracted" time off. I'm skipping taking off July 4th because it's in the middle of the week and I don't care much if a couple dcks are around (which is unlikely, really, because I know my dcps). I'm not taking off much around Xmas and New Year's this year, either. I'm skipping taking off the Friday and Saturday after Thxgiving this year AND next year (I work for one family on Saturdays).

This is the plan so far:

Daycare will be CLOSED on the following dates. Note that I base my holidays and closures on my 6-day work week. Dates in BOLD are Federal holidays that I will be closed, dates in (parentheses) are Saturdays. I will NOT be closed on the 4th of July because it falls in the middle of the week. I am also not closing for the observed New Year's Day January 2nd. Instead I am taking some extra days around Christmas. All weekdays and holidays are paid if they fall on a contracted day for your family.
          January-
          February-
          March-
          April- (7), 9
          May- 28th, 29th, 30th, 31st
          June- 1, (2)
          July-
          August- 31
          September- (1), 3
          October-
          November- 22
          December- 24, 25, 26, 27, 28, (29), 31
          January- 1
          .
